Max/MSP and Reaktor

Mu-gen was created as a composition aid. The user enters in a musical idea or phrase via a MIDI controller. User-defined parameters are then set to alter the original content into a longer, more elaborate musical phrase.
This patch is used in conjunction with a MIDI foot controller. The effect that this patch generates could be compared to that of a Boss Loop Station, with much more control. When an audio sample is recorded, the expression pedals can then be used to "scrub" through the phrase at one's own pace or control any other parameter including a knob on a VST instrument or overall volume.
MTX is a rhythm generator used in an electro-acoustic piece of the same name. The piece was premiered in Buenos Aires, Argentina as part of a University Miami/LIPM collaboration. This patch generates complex rhythmic and melodic structures and playback can either be routed to percussive sounds based on FM synthesis or MIDI output for use with other software or hardware synthesizers. MTX also offers user-definable modal and tonic input for bass and melody.
Reaktor offers a similar "blank canvas" to that of Max/MSP and this patch takes advantage of Reaktor's ability to easily load many audio files into a sample map. A user can fill a sample map with over 100 samples and sequence them quickly and easily in the step sequencer on the interface. This instrument is used in a piece entitled "YLine."
